Near-Source Simulation of Strong Ground Motion in Amatrice Downtown Including Site Effects

چکیده
On 24 August 2016, a Mw 6.0 earthquake started damaging seismic sequence in central Italy. The historical center of Amatrice village reached the XI degree (MCS scale) but high vulnerability alone could not explain heavy damage. Unfortunately, at time only AMT station, 200 m away from downtown, recorded mainshock, whereas tens temporary stations were installed afterwards. We propose method to simulate ground motion affecting Amatrice, using FFT amplitude AMT, which has been modified by standard spectral ratio (SSR) computed 14 downtown. tested procedure comparing simulations and recordings two later mainshocks (Mw 5.9 6.5), underlining advantages limits technique. strong variability was related proximity source, accounted for peculiar site effects, described transfer function sites. largest amplification characterized close NE hill edge produced simulated values intensity measures clearly above one deviation GMM expected Italy, up 1.6 g PGA.

A Strong Ground Motion Catalogue of Selected Records for Shallow Crustal, Near Field Earthquakes in Iran
Understanding strong ground motions in the near-fault areas is important for seismic risk assessment in densely populated areas. In the past, lack of information on strong ground motion for large and moderate earthquakes led to the use of mainly far field large and moderate earthquake records in equations for calculation of the strong ground motion parameters. In this article, we collected and ...
متن کاملFrontiers in Source Modeling for Near-source Ground- Motion Prediction
Accurate prediction of the intensity and variability of strong ground motions for future large earthquakes depends on our ability to simulate realistic earthquake source models. While there has been considerable progress in characterizing the complexity of earthquake ruptures, recent devastating earthquakes have exhibited rather unexpected behavior. Moderate-size events occurred with surprising...

ABSTRACT: This paper checked, appended and corrected the strong motion database of Western U.S. on site conditions and so on first, and then recommends a new source spectral model and model parameters depending on the statistical analysis to acceleration Fourier spectra of these strong motion recordings. The new source spectral model has some further improvement to Brune ω 2 model and Atkinson ...
متن کاملDistinguishing barriers and asperities in near-source ground motion
[1] We investigate the ground motion produced by rupture propagation through circular barriers and asperities in an otherwise homogeneous earthquake rupture. Using a threedimensional finite difference method, we analyze the effect of asperity radius, strength, and depth in a dynamic model with fixed rupture velocity. We gradually add complexity to the model, eventually approaching the behavior ...
متن کاملHybrid Slip Model for Predicting Near-field Strong Ground Motion
A hybrid slip model combined an Asperity model and k model for predicting near-field strong ground motion is proposed in this paper. Firstly, the asperity model charactering lower wave number of slip distribution is estimated based on works of Wang (2004), Wang and Tao (2004a, b). Secondly, k square slip model charactering higher wave number of slip distribution was determined based on research...
